Antifreeze/Coolant Test Program

The Petroleum Quality Institute of America (PQIA) is an independent resource for information and insights on the quality of lubricants in the marketplace. Our mission is to serve the consumer of lubricants by randomly sampling and independently testing lubricants taken from the field. Test results are posted along with the brand names on the PQIA website. This webpage provides an analysis on the brand detailed below.

The following are the test results for the sample examined.

Test Results and Assessment:

The results of the tests conducted on this sample are consistent with the labeled claims.

Note: Major Brands Oil Company contacted PQIA saying that the results of the tests conducted on its product in 2015 were not reflective of the company’s current quality and encouraged PQIA to proactively test its Performance Antifreeze & Coolant currently in the market. PQIA did so and purchased products from two locations in Michigan. The result of one sample is shown here. Click for other sample.

  1. Although the sample tested was not purchased in a state requiring bitterant, 17 states require a minimum of 30ppm to make engine coolants unpalatable to people and animals.  Bitterant has no measurable performance benefit or detriment to coolants at levels mandated.
