Note: Although the label on this product states it meets ASTM D-4340, it should be noted that ASTM D-4340 is not a specification. Instead, it is a standard test method for Corrosion of Cast Aluminum Alloys in Engine Coolants Under Heat-Rejecting Conditions. ASTM D-3306, also noted on the label, however, is a specification. This specification requires a specimen loss of <1.0 mg/cm2/wk when tested by ASTM D-4340. Coolant/antifreeze producers and marketers often refer to ASTM D-4340 because it is an important aluminum specific test method, and to ASTM D-3306 because it is a specification.
